The Uniformed Leaders and volunteers are essential to the success of the group. They, along with our helpers, parents and trustees, form a large supportive group that enable young people to grow, thrive and learn new skills.
Volunteer for just four weeks and be amazed at the difference you’ll make.
Week 1 See what we get up to
Week 2 Start to help out
Week 3 Get a little more involved
Week 4 You’ll know if Scouting is for you.
We have a wide range of flexible roles either supporting young people or behind the scenes. Any help is truly amazing. If you have any water qualifications such as Canoe & Kayak or SUP we can help you put those to good use with Scouts, don't worry if you don't as we offer training and many other roles of more traditional scouting skills.
We understand that shift patterns and family commitments mean that it may not be possible for you commit to helping at every meeting - that's ok and how many of our leaders volunteer with us.
If you are at all interested, come and speak to a leader or email info@rn98.co.uk
They are the mainstay of the meetings and activities. They undertake training and plan and run the meetings for the sections.
Our leaders wear the blue scout shirt and group necker. In Scouts and on formal occasions they wear the Royal Navy peaked cap or tricorn cap, Navy wooly-pully. Our leader also have the Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scout rank slides. Uniform is provided by the group to new leaders.
In Cubs and Beavers our leaders wear the same shirt but may also have a more relaxed Cubs or Beavers hoodie.
The scouts is a uniformed organisation and we wear our uniform with pride and respect for our group and other groups worldwide.
We also have volunteers that help us run meetings when they are able. These can be parents and family members of scouts as well as former scouts wanting to stay in touch and give back to the organisation.
Our group also benefits from volunteer instructors that have water based qualifications to help train young people in the skills they need to:
Sail
Paddle
Stand up paddleboarding
Canoe
Power boating
Our instructors are very much part of our group and although they don't wear uniform they may choose to wear group hoodies and other clothing. We are very grateful to our instructors and the difference they make to our scouts.
We also have trustees who help us raise funds and help us with our governance and accountability
